A Grain of Salt

Hello darling readers!

Have you ever read a story of salt and cactuses? Of vomiting amidst flamingos?

To get from Bolivia (the poorest country on the continent) to Chile (the richest) we had to cross some quite interesting scenics. A 3-day tour with a caravan of 4WD's through the salt flats of Uyuni. Slightly smaller than the Belgian region of Flanders, the salar is the biggest in the world and provides some of the most psychedelic vistas ever seen.

Add to this that the centre of the salar consists out of an island with hundreds of giant cactuses, and temperatures of -15 and you are ready for one hell of a mind-blowing trip.

Next stop: Lagunas filled with hundreds of pink flamingos. Unfortunately I (Nick) catched food poisoning and spent the whole second day of the trip puking my guts out. Oh well...

On day three lagunas, flamingos and steam-spewing geisers guided the way to the Chilean border and a warm bed in the northern settlement of San Pedro de Atacama.
